The College of Healthcare Information Management Executives and Intermountain Health Care are aiming to use a newly opened innovation center to aid HIT professionals.
CHIME, an association representing healthcare information technology professionals, is working with the Salt Lake City-based integrated delivery system to operate the Intermountain and CHIME Innovation Center in Murray, Utah.
The center is designed to be a resource for IT pros, healthcare executives and other stakeholders to promote new technologies to transform healthcare. The center will be an educational hub for innovators within the industry as well as the outside innovation community.
With the launch of the innovation center now complete, several programs are forthcoming. CHIME Innovation will serve as an educational hub and an innovation facilitator for the health IT and innovation community.

“Healthcare technology has been evolving at an unprecedented pace,” says Shafiq Rab, MD, chair of the CHIME Board of Trustees and CIO at Rush University Medical Center. “As CIOs, we have no other option but to innovate. CHIME Innovation will be an educational resource for CHIME members and others in our community, and also a catalyst for advancing promising technologies and impactful innovation.”
CHIME Innovation will offer workshops, summits and events focusing on the intersection between CIOs and chief innovation officers, and offer opportunities for CHIME members to share their innovation success stories. The first workshop, called “Developing an Innovation Framework,” will be held March 17 and 18 at the Intermountain and CHIME Innovation Center and taught by faculty from CHIME Innovation and Intermountain Healthcare. The workshop will introduce concepts that establish a common language and toolset for innovation. Networking, small group exercises and case studies, will be part of the program.
“CHIME is ideally suited to take on the role as a leader in the advancement of healthcare IT,” says Jonathan Fritz, executive director of CHIME Innovation. “CHIME’s members have embraced the potential of IT to improve patient care, and they are the linchpin for innovation in many of their healthcare organizations. CHIME Innovation will give them the tools, knowledge and confidence to drive change in healthcare.”
