It has taken us nearly three generations to make a push back to self reliance in some cities and surrounding suburbs. For years the convenience was so alluring that it just took people and made slaves of them. They struggled to fight the tide and eventually gave into it. Much of this also had to do with the fact that the kids of those steel minded survivors of the past were not taught or did not value the skills of their ancestors.
Now with the advent of technology and the type of things that are children find entertaining, teaching them these skills is incredibly tough. Pulling them from the technological sphere becomes more and more of a chore the older they get. As parents, this is part of what we have to do for our children.
The good news is that there are several ways that you can engage your kids in prepping and survival without actually telling them they are doing what you want them to.
There is not a single kid on the planet that doesn’t love the idea of starting a big old campfire and roast marshmallows. It just doesn’t exist. You are going to get kids off the couch any day of the week to go camping. Once you are at the campsite you can teach all sorts of fun things. Even if you don’t have a campsite in mind, you can camp out back.
Geocaching is a treasure hunt. Its a real life treasure hunt for your kids. There is nothing like it for kids. Its one of the most underutilized reason to get outside and seek and find things.
Be careful what you watch. If you watch shows about hunting and adventure it will infect your kids. So be mindful of that tv time.
What your children carry to the next generation will directly affect preparedness in the next generation.
